Stories of people on the move punctuate human history from the beginning of time itself. The Bible tells the story of people being forced from their homes. It began with Adam and Eve when they were banished from the garden and it includes Mary, Joseph, Jesus and many others. Migration is also woven into our own histories and family stories.

It matters how we talk about people on the move.

Migrants are people, created in God’s image. Our conversations can uphold the dignity of each person and highlight that image. In contrast to policies and conversation that tries to dehumanize migrants, we can share a different story.

It's a story that we're all connected to.

Everyone needs a home – where families are safe and secure, where their basic needs are met, where they can come and go freely. Everyone needs a home where they can imagine a future.

Share the Message

We challenge you to change the message around migration. Share your story on social media about what finding home means to you. Use #Myhomeis and #MCC100years to connect with us.

My home is… a place where everyone is safe.
My home is… somewhere we all belong.
My home is… a place I chose.
My home is… starting over in a new place.
My home is… only a memory.
My home is… a dream.

The Story We Share: A Crisis of Compassion

“Migration is the story humanity shares and moving is part of what it means to be human... people can end up in unexpected or difficult situations and it is important for us to work together (as the butterflies in this picture) to help our fellow migrants on their journey even if they are very different from us.” – An excerpt from a personal reflection by Hannah Gray about the story of migration we all share.
